Postural Responses to Emotional Stimuli

Postural displacements in response to emotional activation have been proposed as a direct and objective index of approach —body movement towards the stimulus— or avoidance —body movement away from the stimulus— behavior in humans. My research on the dynamical patterns of human postural responses to emotional stimuli has questioned the interpretation of such responses as approach-avoidance behavior. Instead, my co-authors and I were the first to identify a robust dynamical pattern, characterized by specific features indicating that attentional processes may play a role in human postural responses to emotional stimuli.
